The Best Poker Tutorials & Guides Apps For Learning Poker
The world of online poker tuition is now a multimillion dollar industry and has allowed people to progress in the game at an alarming rate. In fact, some people who were previously successful at the game have actually quit because of the standard of competition and their unwillingness to move with the times and improve themselves.
What we are seeing these days is a transition from being able to learn online to also integrate a number of feature rich apps that will also help players improve. Admittedly, the apps probably don’t include as much information as one of the larger training sites, but they are ideal for people looking to start out in the world of online or mobile poker.
The Windows Phone market is another that is evolving when it comes to mobile poker and even over the past few months we have seen developments into how many apps are on the market and also how comprehensive they have become.
The apps on the whole vary greatly. We have come across some truly shocking ones that even include spelling mistakes, with ‘Royal Flash’ being our personal favourite. The ones we have listed below are exclusive the Windows Mobile phone market, although if you are on an iPhone or Android device, there will likely be an equivalent in each respected store.
We feel that at least one of our featured apps will provide some substance to the majority of mobile poker players out there. Some won’t have any foothold at all and even though they majority of them are pretty basic and better for beginners, sometimes even the most experienced of players need a little refresher every now and then, which we think they will achieve.

Poker Pal - FREE
Poker Pal covers one of the most important factors for any budding online or mobile poker player; bankroll management. Being able to practice this successfully is key to becoming a successful player and being able to have the bankroll in place to cope with the inevitable swings online poker creates.
The app starts by letting you key in a bankroll amount before then telling you what sort of stakes you are comfortably able to play. What we like is that it gives you a breakdown of risky levels, conservative and a sweet spot, so you can work out exactly where you need to be. It basically works off a pretty standard 20, 40 and 100 buy in level.
Integrated into this though is the ability to see what sort of buy in levels you can play for cash, tournaments and sit and go games, which is a really neat feature as often the latter two get overlooked with these kinds of apps. You can basically type in as many bankroll amounts as you like to see the levels in which you should be playing.
If we were to give one bit of advice for this then we would say the ‘recommended’ level is a little low, especially if you are playing multiple tables, although it’s not a million miles away for a rough guide at least.

Ultimate Poker Manager - FREE
We’ve included the Ultimate Poker Manager app in our list because it’s a little different from your usual apps and we kind of like it for that exact reason. The app is more of a live game type, which lets you track tournaments, use an in-app clock and manage statistics of your league.
Starting with the timer, we found it to be really useful in our live games and could set it up as we wished beforehand and literally just let it tick down. What was great was the ability to choose features like a 1 minute warning, unlimited blinds rounds and also the ability to have it run in the background even if the phone was on lock screen. This last feature is actually pretty rare!
The game statistics section is probably where the app really stands out and not only can you track what’s going on in the current tournament, you can set up leagues and points to see overall standings. If you run or attend a weekly poker game, this sort of thing is worth is weight in gold in terms of usability and functionality for organising these types of things. You can also easily hook this up to social media outlets such a Facebook and Twitter to instantly post results. The app will provide a breakdown of results for each player allowing them to track performances and results.
Finally it includes a poker hand chart and a little information for each hand. Very basic, but a nice addition nonetheless!

Poker Odds - FREE
The Poker Odds app on Windows Mobile is pretty much what it says on the tin; all about understanding the statistics of poker hands. There are actually a few apps of its kind on the marketplace at the minute, but we found this to be one of the best.
The app starts by giving you the option of picking your starting hand before then showing percentages of the win against any random two cards. You can then pick the number of opponents at the table to adjust your odds accordingly. From here you can enter the flop, turn and river cards to again work out your odds of winning at any given time. Before putting in each street the app will work out the percentage of hitting each hand combination and also the likelihood you will win the hand.
What we liked about the app is that you can increase or decrease the accuracy of the odds to allow for faster or slower loading times, accordingly. This means that the odds may change ever so slightly each time you ping a hand in, but it’s just essentially giving you more accurate readings to improve performance, where selected.
It would be good to be able to assign a range of hands to your opponent as well to make it an even stronger tool, but if you are just looking to grasp a concept on the range of odds you can get, then there are few better apps than this for Windows Phone poker players.
